שולחן ערוך הרבShulchan Arukh HaRav
The *Shulchan Arukh HaRav* is an 18th-century legal code used by many Chasidic Jews as a basis for daily practice. It was written by Rabbi Shneur Zalman, the *alter* (elder) *rebbe* of Chabad, after his teacher, Rabbi Dov Ber (the *maggid*) of Mezeritch, asked him to write a concise, conclusive, and accessible version of the 16th-century *Shulchan Arukh* for contemporary Chasidic Jews. It is considered an authoritative legal text outside Chasidic circles as well. Much of the original text of *Shulchan Arukh HaRav* was destroyed in a fire, and only about a third of the original remains. The *Shulchan Arukh HaRav* is an 18th-century legal code used by many Chasidic Jews as a basis for daily practice.
