קובץ של כמאתיים וחמישים סיפורים מחייו ופועלו של מייסד תנועת החסידות, ר' ישראל בעל שם טוב, נכתב על ידי דוב בער בן שמואל שהיה חתנו של מזכירו (כותב קמיעות ועוזרו האישי) של הבעל שם טוב.A collection of legends about the Ba'al Shem Tov (also known by the acronym Besht), founder of Chasidut, written by Dov Baer ben Samuel, a son-in-law of the Besht's secretary. The book exists in two different versions: the Kopys edition (1815) and the Berditchev edition of the same year. The latter omits many legends that are found in the former, especially those that are of a particularly extraordinary nature. Later editions — of which there are more than ten — follow one or the other of these editions. Some are a combination of the two.
