חיבור הלכתי המהווה סוג של קיצור ל"ספר מצוות גדול" (סמ"ג), כשהוא משמיט את הדיונים הארוכים ומספק תמצית של כל מצוה. הוא גם השמיט כל המצוות שאינן נהוגות בזמן הזה. הספר נקרא במקורו "שבע עמודי הגולה" בשל העובדה שהוא מחולק לשבעה חלקים המקבילים לימי השבוע, כדי לעודד ולהקל על לימוד וחזרה תמידית. אכן, הספר זכה לפופולריות ולתפוצה רבה בקהילות ישראל השונות, וקיבל הכרה מיוחדת מחכמי צרפת וגרמניה, עד כדי כך שהיו מקומות שכללו אותו בתוך סידורי התפילה כדי שיעיינו בו בכל יום במקום אמירת מזמורי תהלים ותחינות.Sefer Mitzvot Katan (“The Small Book of Commandments,” also referred to by its Hebrew acronym, the Semak) is a 13th-century poetic abridgment of the [Sefer Mitzvot Gadol](https://www.sefaria.org/Sefer_Mitzvot_Gadol?tab=contents) of [Moses of Coucy](https://www.sefaria.org/topics/moses-ben-jacob-of-coucy). It blends laws, stories, and ethical teachings, omitting commandments not applicable in the post-Temple era as well as the extensive legal discussions of the Sefer Mitzvot Gadol. The book was originally titled "Sheva Amudei HaGolah" (“The Seven Pillars of the Exile”) because it is divided into seven parts corresponding to the days of the week, in order to encourage daily review. It achieved widespread popularity and was included by some early authorities in the prayer book so that the precepts could be recited daily.
