ספר הישר, הנקרא גם "דברי ימים הארוך" או "תולדות אדם," הוא מדרש בדרך סיפור, המתאר כל המאורעות והמעשיות אשר קרו לאבותינו מימות אדם הראשון ומלחמות בני יעקב עם הכנענים עד אחר יציאת מצרים, וקצת סיפורים מספר במדבר ודברים ויהושע עד ימי השופטים. הרמב"ן מכנהו בשם "מלחמות בני יעקב", אך הוא מפקפק באמינותו. בהקדמת המדפיס מכתב היד כתוב שהוא נמצא בשעת חורבן בית שני על ידי שר רומאי, אך מסגנון הכתיבה נראה שהוא נתחבר בתקופה הרבה יותר מאוחרת.Sefer HaYashar (not to be confused with an ethical text by the same name) is a midrash that covers biblical history, from creation until the period of the judges. Named after an ancient text referred to in Joshua 10:12 and II Samuel 1:17, the work is also referred to as the Toledot Adam or Divrei HaYamim HeArukh. The introduction describes how a Roman general discovered the work during the destruction of the Second Temple, but scholarship has long maintained that the work is medieval.
