ספר יואל הוא השני בקובץ תרי עשר, הכולל ספרי נבואה קצרים. הספר פותח בתיאור ההרס שגרמה מכת ארבה ואבלם של יושבי הארץ. בתגובה קורא הנביא לחזרה בתשובה, צום ותפילה. בחלקו השני של הספר יש נבואה על "יום ה' הגדול והנורא", שבו יינקם ה' בעמים המשעבדים את ישראל וישפוך מרוחו על כל בני האדם, וכולם יתחילו להתנבא.Joel (“Yoel”) is the second of 12 books of Minor Prophets (“Trei Asar”), marked by their shortness. The prophet begins by describing the devastation wrought by a locust plague and calling for repentance, fasting and prayer. Joel describes God’s future response to Israel’s reform, promising abundance and prophecy for all. He also tells of a future “great and terrible day of God” when the “sun shall turn to darkness” (3:3-4) and Israel’s oppressors will be judged.
