Epstein studied under the first two rebbes of the Chabad Chasidic movement and served as rabbi, rosh yeshiva, and head of the rabbinic court in Homel, White Russia. *Chanah Ariel* quotes often from the Zohar and from teachings of Rabbi Isaac Luria.
